On birthdays, one’s health and a pain in the neck…

Little Bits

So it’s my birthday today. I love birthdays…but I have to admit…this year it’s a bit hard to accept that I’m getting older. I don’t mind aging overall…but well 35…it’s a milestone.

A milestone that I would appreciate more if my health wasn’t all out of whack. You see, I’ve been experience excruciating pain in my head and neck for over 6 months now and recently crazy dizzy spells complete with out of control vomiting, blacking out, etc. Yeah, exciting times. (Actually I’ve been having migraines on a daily basis for over a year now). And after a lot of research, I finally discovered that my spine is completely out of alignment (as you can see in this x-ray). I was in a car accident 2 1/2 years ago and fell off a 20 foot cliff years before that (in high school) and it appears that these events (in conjunction with childbirth and nursing and poor posture on the computer, etc.) have really thrown things into a downward spiral for me.

Sooo what that means for me and the blog…well things might be slowing down a bit as I try to get my health (and consequentially my life) in order. I’ll still be here but perhaps not multiple times a week. Some weeks it might just be one post…etc. I’m seeing a cervical spine specialist and have hi hopes for a full recovery (he say’s it will take a year before I’m completely back in alignment…but hey, I’ll take it). And if you are one of those that are still waiting on an etsy order, don’t worry it’s coming. I apologize for the delay. Jon is helping to get the shop back in full working order.

And now I’m off to enjoy the rest of my day. I’m pretty sure there will be chocolate involved. And perhaps a really great massage…sounds like the perfect dreamy birthday to me…

  1. Oh Mer, I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been out of sorts. 20 foot cliff? That sounds like quite a story. Wishing you well and a speedy healing. And happy birthday — hope it’s an extra special one! xo

  2. Happy Birthday Merrilee! You look fabulous despite how you’ve been feeling and take comfort in knowing that it will get better (that’s great news). I suffered from headaches over half my life so far and since going to the chiro I haven’t had too many lately, such relief as they really suck (some as terrible as you have experienced too)! Judging by your blog and Instagram, you are very strong and amazing to still do all that you do!

  3. Oh, man, that sounds awful! I hope you’re able to resolve the alignment issues and be comfortable in your own skin again. That’ll make you feel teenagery. This year I turned 36. According to math rules, my age would be rounded up to 40 now. Ugh. **Feel better, feel better, feel better.**

  4. I’m turning 35 this year too and it IS a milestone. Congratulations and happy birthday! I am sorry about your health issues and hope you get back to feeling good soon. Sometimes slowing down is just the right thing for a lot of reasons. Peace to you in this new year!

  5. You poor darling! I can relate on some level at the moment, as I gave birth 2 weeks ago, and have been in and out of hospital with mastitis since, so I’m feeling the pull between keeping my blog/art work up to date, while also trying to focus (most importantly) on my health and family. I hope you feel much better soon!

  6. I’m so sorry to hear about your health problems. I’ve been following your blog for some time now and I’m a huge fan of your projects. Slowing down might be very inspirational as well 🙂 Wishing you all the best!

  7. So, so sorry Mer. Such pain can be totally debilitating. You are amazing to have done so much through all of this anyway. Please take good care of yourself– I’ll be praying you find the best doctors and the right answers to see you right through this. If you happen to go to Denver Mike Madsen is a spine doctor (remember them from NY?) and I’m sure would be happy to see you– I can put you in contact. Speaking of Denver, we will be there June-August and are really, really hoping to cross paths with you (since I’m not sure we’ll make it out to Utah this time). Please keep in touch. And happy, happy birthday, friend!!!

  8. Happy Birthday.
I hope, you recover quickly, but such a recovery can´t be pused. It usely take it´s time.
I hope you can gather somme strength and health to keep going on with Mermag. I will truely peep in once and a while.
