Kid Portraits

Celebrate Illustration Little Bits

Jon and I celebrated our 12 year anniversary this past Saturday. It’s crazy to think of the many things we have done together. New York City, Brooklyn, Knoxville, Paris, London, LA, Colorado, Utah…just to name a few destinations we set out to explore together… Marriage is awesome but it isn’t always peaches and cream (although we do eat a lot of chocolate chip cookies!) but it’s just about the most rewarding challenge we’ve ever set out to embark on. And our three little rascals are by far the best thing we’ve ever worked on together.

It’s sort of become a tradition that I give Jon a gift of art to commemorate occasions. So to celebrate another year of “we don’t know what on earth we’re doing but we somehow make it work anyhow” I decided to draw portraits of each of our children.

You’ll probably be surprised that with all the kid portraits I’ve drawn in the past, this is the first time I’ve drawn my very own children. No lie. (OK that is if you don’t count a few super simple doodles…but nothing like this).

The kids loved being a part of this gift as well and squealed when they finally saw the finished drawing. If you want to take a look at some of the photos we used for these portraits you can jump on over to my Instagram account. Little O had a hard time keeping it a secret and had to drop a few clues for Jon every other minute.

Jon loved the portraits and I can’t wait to frame them and put them up in our home. We enjoyed a nice dinner out complete with steak, coral roses (Jon knows my favorite color), silly banter and a giddy resolve to keep doing what we’re doing with the hopes that we get a little bit smarter but not a bit less playful. So hang around and you’ll see just what we have in store for the future.

Love you Jon! xoxoxo
