(and OK, since I just can’t help myself, you could do this with the Littles too – particularly the 8 and up crowd. Just supervise the bleaching part. Otherwise it’s seriously a great “learn how to sew” project! Perfect little pencil pouch.).

Also, considering the known hazards of breathing bleach fumes–especially for kids, at the very least anyone using your method should do it outdoors.
Sorry to sound like a grump about this craft, but after years in costuming and textiles, I’ve learned to approach using bleach with caution.
